Irrespective of how much you love your baby, or how long you’ve eagerly waited to have one – pregnancy, delivery, and caring for a new born is stressful. New mothers often feel like they are on an emotional rollercoaster ride, given the sleep deprivation, new responsibilities, and lack of time for oneself.

Feeling tearful, overwhelmed, and emotionally fragile for the first few weeks following delivery is referred to as baby blues and is completely normal. However, if these symptoms persist or become worse with time, you may be experiencing postnatal/postpartum depression. While baby blues tend to pass quickly, postnatal depression can be long-lasting and severely affect a woman’s ability to get through her day.

How Can rTMS Help?

Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) is a NICE UK, Health Canada and FDA approved non-invasive and drug-free treatment, which involves the use of electromagnetic pulses to stimulate under-active brain cells to work more effectively.

It targets the prefrontal cortex, which is the area of the brain that regulates mood, emotional wellbeing, motivation, and social skills. As opposed to merely treating the symptoms, rTMS addresses the root cause of the problem by reorganising brain pathways and patterns. 75% of our clients have experienced significant improvement, while 45% report complete remission.

The procedure does not require anaesthesia, hospitalisation, or recovery time. rTMS has markedly fewer side-effects than antidepressant medication, many of which are not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women as the chemicals affect the entire body and can transfer to the baby.

Neuromed Clinic now has advanced TMS treatment (Thetaburst), which is the most up to date technology in treating depression, anxiety, migraines, and addiction problems. If you have any questions about TMS, please call us at 085-1534158 or email lisa@neuromedclinic.com. We can also be contacted through Facebook and Instagram.
